The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach.

IDI is implementing comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the Kampala region of Uganda under the project: “Accelerating epidemic control in Kampala region of Uganda through scale up of evidence based and high impact interventions towards achievement of UNAIDS 90:90:90 targets”. With funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/PEPFAR, IDI is implementing comprehensive HIV/AIDS services in the Mid-western & West Nile Districts of Uganda namely; Kibaale, Hoima, Buliisa, Masindi, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Kiryandongo, Kakumiro Kagadi, Zombo, Arua, Nebbi, Maracha, Koboko, Yumbe, Moyo and Adjumani.

IDI is developing clinical trials capacity for therapeutic agents and vaccines for emerging and re-emerging diseases and wishes to recruit a Global Health Security (GHS) Team Lead who will develop and implement a coherent strategy for the GHS sub-program while working closely with, and coordinating GHS activities across IDI's departments.

IDI is implementing a research project to Improve Linkage to Treatment for Patients Diagnosed with TB at routine healthcare facilities in Uganda. This collaborative research project is funded jointly by the IDI and the sub-Saharan African Network for TBHIV Research Excellence (SANTHE). Health facilities will be recruited into the study and a series of quality improvement and patient education interventions carried out for a period of one year.  IDI and its partners seek to fill the position of Study Nurse for efficient implementation of the project.
