Key Responsibilities

Coordinate maintenance work

  • He will supervise and coordinate maintenance work to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the premises. This includes overseeing repairs, and managing preventative maintenance tasks.

Manage inventory

  • The Facilities assistant will play a key role in tracking and managing inventory of supplies, equipment, and assets. This involves regularly checking inventory levels and ensuring all equipment is in good working order.

Oversee security     

  • Working closely with the services and security team, the facilities assistant will help to ensure a safe and secure work environment. This includes assisting with safety protocols, key holder management, and monitoring access to the premise.

The position holder will be supervising circumcision activities at static site and mobile camps in the field.This person will manage site or camp staff during implementation of VMMC activities. He /she will work with the VHTs/mobilisers in the community for client mobilization and MOH staff to ensure that implementation of the VMMC program in the districts is efficiently executed. He /she will also manage logistics and camp finances in the VMMC operation areas.

The study runner will be required to give overall support to both the clinical and administrative teams on the study. This will entail assistance of patients to navigate through the different stops during their visits. They will also be required to assist to courier and deliver documents or any other study related material to or from the IDI site. The individual should be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

The Senior Project Officer will be the technical point of contact for program implementation, ensuring adherence to deliverables and timelines. This role involves writing technical reports, monitoring KPIs, and facilitating stakeholder engagements. A bilingual candidate (French and English) is preferred to support IDI's regionalization strategy. 

IDI received a five-year (Oct 2021 – Oct 2026) transition award entitled USAID Local Partner Health Services-TB Activity. The purpose of the award is to increase TB case detection and treatment success in Uganda to 90% of all cases and thus contribute to the reduction of Uganda’s TB burden by 2026. IDI works through technical assistance to the Ministry of Health’s National TB & Leprosy Program (NTLP), the three urban districts of Kampala, Mukono, Wakiso,  all districts in the Karamoja Region, and Regional Referral Hospitals to increase the availability, accessibility, and utilization of integrated TB, TB/HIV and MDR-TB services.

The Statistician shall primarily be responsible for compiling and analyzing programmatic data generated in the focus districts of the USAID LPHS TB Activity. He will also support the NTLP staff to analyze data generated through NTLP programmatic activities and operations research. He/she must be a diverse individual, showing broad technical, organizational, and communication skills and be capable of working individually and in a team environment.

 

The Biomedical Engineering Technician is a member of the Operations section under the finance and administration department. He/She is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of Biomedical equipment and devices critical to the functioning of the laboratory settings, and ensures that all biomedical equipment operates safely, reliably, and effectively. He/she will collaborate with other engineering staff to ensure the effective integration of technology to enhance capabilities.

About the ACE

In 2019, the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), in collaboration with Makerere University’s Colleges of Computing & Health Sciences and the Office of Cyber Infrastructure and Computational Biology at the United States' National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), established the African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Data-Intensive Sciences (ACE) in Uganda. This center is one of only two such facilities on the African continent, the other being located in Mali. The ACE operates under IDI's research program, one of six core programs within the institute. Its mission is to serve as a sustainable center of excellence, leveraging High Performance Computing (HPC), bioinformatics, data science, and visualization to advance health research and training across Africa.
