Position Title: Obstetrics/Gynaecology - Study Site Coordinator

Job Type: Full-Time Contract

Location: Kawempe National Referral Hospital, Kampala, Uganda

Reports To: Site Principal Investigator

Position Overview

A Medical Doctor specializing in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will oversee the clinical aspects of data collection, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and compliance of obstetrics and gynaecology data for the Project. This role involves direct coordination with the clinical teams, radiologists, and data collection staff to manage the project's data-related implementation and adhere to ethical and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Oversight

  • Supervise and manage the collection of obstetric ultrasound data, ensuring adherence to the 8-sweep blind protocol.
  • Provide clinical expertise in the interpretation and validation of collected ultrasound and demographic data.
  • Coordinate with radiographers, nurses, and sonographers to ensure quality control during data collection.

Project Implementation

  • Work closely with the project’s Principal Investigator and other key stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of data collection protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines across the project.
  • Participate in training sessions for clinical teams, ensuring all staff are competent in utilizing handheld ultrasound devices and adhering to project protocol.

Data Management

  • Ensure collected data is anonymized, secure, and stored in compliance with relevant data protection regulations.
  • Review and validate data accuracy before upload to the central cloud platform.

Quality Assurance

  • Conduct periodic audits of data collection processes to maintain high standards of accuracy and consistency.
  • Provide feedback to data collection teams based on quality reviews and ensure corrective actions where necessary.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with hospital administration, ethics committees, and local health authorities to maintain compliance and foster collaboration.
  • Act as a point of contact between the clinical sites and the coordinating project teams.

Academic Qualifications

  • Master Of medicine-Obstetrics & Gynecology
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

Person Specification

Education: Medical degree with specialization in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MBChB and MMed Obstetrics & Gynaecology).

Experience:

  • Experience in ultrasound diagnostics.
  • Experience in clinical research.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in the use of ultrasound imaging equipment, especially handheld devices
  • Experience with data collection platforms (e.g., REDCap).

Soft Skills

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders

An added advantage

  • Experience in AI-enabled healthcare projects or familiarity with AI model validation is an advantage.
  • Training or certification in Good clinical practice (GCP) and Human Subject Protection (HSP).

The Fleet Management assistant is a member of the fleet section within the operation section under the finance and administration department. The overarching task of the fleet management assistant is to support the fleet management officer in fleet-related activities, inventory control, and insurance and deputize in the officer's absence.

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician is a member of the Operations section under the finance and administration department He/she will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems at all times. He/she will also oversee related works of contracted works to outside contractors - ensuring that their work is up to the required quality and standard.

  • Participate in protocol training and any required trainings related Human Subjects Protection (HSP) and Good Clinical Practices (GCP).
  • Function as the focal person for the ART2FIT study activities and the Head StART qualitative study activities and liaise with partners in the study setting.
  • Assist with study document preparation.
  • Travel frequently to health center study sites in midwestern and southwestern Uganda.
  • Support participant recruitment.

  • Supervise and coordinate the qualitative research activities of Head StART research assistants.
  • Administer informed consent and address participants' questions.

Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) (www.idi-makerere.com) is a not-for-profit organization, owned by Makerere University. Its mission is “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through Research and Capacity building”. Over the last 6 years, IDI has been running the Fleming Fund project, which supports government efforts to set-up systems for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance. The Nurture Space Assistant will be responsible for managing and maintaining the nurture center within IDI, ensuring a comfortable, clean and supportive environment for nursing mothers.

The IDI Nurture Space Assistant is a member of the Employee Relations and Welfare Section within the HR Department. 

Provides microbiology sample processing and data entry support and mentoring capacity. Works in the Data Entry and Processing areas to ensure that the microbiology samples received and processed have the accompanying Lab requisitions entered in a timely manner. Performs bacteriology, mycobacteriology as well as manual and automated culture and sensitivity tests. Demonstrates skill and knowledge on all laboratory test systems in a clinical microbiology unit. Follows Good Laboratory Practices and quality requirements of the Core Lab
