EMTCT OFFICER (2)

General Summary

The district EMTCT services officer will spearhead mentorship and supervise the district frontline health workers in both technical aspects of maternal and child health (MCH), elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV (EMTCT) and in professionalism health care delivery. Their major roles include coordinating trainings, providing mentorship, supporting documentation and reporting related to MCH and EMTCT performance indicators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support mentorship and training efforts to build capacity of facility teams to deliver high quality MCH and EMTCT services.
  • Support implementation and use of MoH guidelines and ensure compliance with MoH policies.  
  • Guide client education and facility sensitization efforts to continuously build EMTCT knowledge among patients attending IDI-supported health facilities.
  •  Participate in identification, implementation and documentation of continuous quality improvement activities along the HIV continuum of response and the EMTCT cascade within the district health facilities.
  • Support performance monitoring initiatives through key indicator tracking and routine data use at IDI-supported health facilities to guide quality services and target achievement
  • Lead EMTCT teams and work closely with M&E teams at IDI-supported health facilities to complete and submit high quality reports according to project, donor and Ministry of Health timelines.
  •  Participate in facility and community efforts to improve linkage, retention and viral suppression rates among HIV clients in MCH settings.
  • Any other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time

Academic Qualification

  • A Diploma Midwifery/Nursing or Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized education institution
  • Completion of Registered training in Midwifery, Clinical Medicine or Nursing from a recognized education institution
  • Full and active registration with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives’ council or allied professional councils or relevant body
  • Full and active registration with the Allied Professional Council or relevant body
  • Training in the latest guidelines for the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS and opportunistic infections in Uganda

Specific Experience

  • Experience and up-to-date knowledge of national HIV/AIDS management protocols
  • Good communication, organization and management skills
  • Understands client confidentiality and exhibits a high level of ethical conduct
  • Has basic computer literacy including word processing, excel, internet, and powerpoint
  • The ability to ride a motorcycle is an added advantage
