HAI SURVEILLANCE OFFICER (2)

General Summary

The SSI surveillance is an IPC programmatic, non-research, activity encompassing five regional referral hospitals. This program aims to establish a feasible and sustainable SSI surveillance program in selected RRHs. Good surveillance will provide valuable information on ways to inform the implementation and ongoing evaluation of SSI prevention interventions, improve patient outcomes, and ensure patient safety in the long run

Key Responsibilities

  1. Administer all surveillance procedures like data collection and entry, patient follow-up, and treatment to patients recruited into the study as guided by the protocol
  2. Participate in patient assessments on the maternity wards, theater and postnatal wards
  3. Mentorship of facility teams on HAI surveillance
  4. Ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
  5. Knowledgeable of applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  6. Complete, timely and accurate documentation of all activities as per SOPs, and study protocols
  7. Update project logs, CRFs, and other documents.
  8. Understand IPC principles
  9. Any other duties as directed by the immediate supervisor.

Academic Qualification

  • Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery

Specific Experience

  • Clinical care of pregnant and postpartum mothers
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Nursing care for post-surgery patients
  • Training and mentorship of healthcare workers

Person Specification

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Training in midwifery is an added advantage.
  • Experience or knowledge in the IPC
  • Experience in clinical and maternal care, including surgical care.
  • Experience in implementing quality improvement projects.
