Philippa Musoke

Professor of Paediatrics, College of Health Sciences Makerere University

Professor Philippa Musoke qualified with a medical degree (MB Ch B) from Makerere University, Kampala Uganda in 1981. Her pediatric specialty training was obtained from University of Louisville, Kentucky and sub-specialty training in infectious diseases from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio, USA(1994). Her current appointment is in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health in the School of Medicine at the Makerere University College of Health Sciences. In addition, she is the site Principal Investigator for the Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University clinical research site in Kampala- Uganda, in the NIH supported IMPAACT Network.

Professor Musoke is board certified in Pediatric infectious diseases and has been conducting clinical trials in perinatal HIV prevention and childhood tuberculosis since 1995, and implementing studies/programs for paediatric antiretroviral therapy in resource limited settings. Professor Musoke’s areas of research interest include: prevention of mother to child HIV transmission through breast feeding, simplification of antiretroviral regimens for children from resource limited settings and epidemiology, diagnosis and immunology of childhood tuberculosis.
