PREVENTION, CARE AND TREATMENT
Delivering unparalleled multidisciplinary prevention, care, and treatment for infectious diseases, while supporting research, training, and knowledge dissemination.
IDI is a national non-profit organization wholly owned by Makerere University. We excel in multidisciplinary prevention, care, and treatment for infectious diseases while supporting research and training. Our holistic approach, informed by patient insights, ensures individuals receive optimal care and support.
Our Journey to Ending HIV
In response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, our founders established IDI’s flagship programme—Prevention, Care, and Treatment—focused on treating individuals living with HIV, preventing new infections among at-risk populations, and supporting affected communities.
When our clinic opened its doors in 2004, we were immediately confronted with an overwhelming number of people seeking free care. Rather than turning them away, we worked to strengthen services in local government clinics, enabling us to refer stabilized patients for long-term care. This compassionate and responsible approach continues to guide our work today as we strive to to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by HIV.
We Won’t Stop Until We End HIV
At IDI we do things differently. From our unique origins to our innovative approaches, we push the boundaries of what people think is possible in HIV treatment and care. But we are not dealing with a single enemy. Find out how we are advancing science and strengthening primary healthcare systems to tackle a host of diseases, including HIV, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis epidemics, and many more. We are not resting until HIV and its associated infections are dealt a death blow and no person living with HIV is left behind.
