Umar Kakumba (PhD) is Associate Professor and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) at Makerere University. He is the outgoing Dean of faculty at the College of Business and Management Sciences Makerere University, a position he has held for eight years until 2018. He is also former Head of Department of Management at Makerere University.
- He is an alumni and visiting research fellow at the University of Cambridge, UK, from where he completed his Post-Doctoral research fellowship. He holds a PhD in Public Sector Management (University of Pretoria); a Masters in Public Administration & Management; a BA (Social Sciences) from Makerere University; and a Diploma in Business Administration.
- He is a Member of Makerere University Council; Member of University Senate; and member of Boards of Governance and Councils of several reputable institutions, locally and internationally.
- He has researched and consulted extensively in the broader area of Public Sector Management. He has published numerous articles in internationally accredited journals and has presented papers locally and internationally. He has passionate expertise in Leadership, Public Policy and Organisational Behaviour.
- Umar is external examiner and visiting professor at The University of Fort Hare; University of Pretoria, University of Kwa Zulu Natal, University of Rwanda, The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and the Uganda Management Institute.
