The IDI Outreach Programme’s main focus is to increase access to quality and comprehensive health services for HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in Uganda, through innovative and strengthened health systems. The programme uses a district-wide health systems strengthening (HSS) approach. This involves strengthening strategic information systems, supply chain management systems and laboratory services, as well as improving human resource capacity through training, mentorship, onsite support and infrastructural modifications. The Outreach Programme supports health system strengthening interventions for the supported districts (Kampala, Kibaale, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Buliisa, Kiryandongo and Masindi) in the areas of comprehensive HIV/AIDS services; including adult and paediatric HIV/AIDS/TB care and support, elimination of mother-to-child HIV transmission (EMTCT) services, comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention interventions that include safe adult male circumcision for HIV/AIDS prevention, as well as support to maternal and child health programmes.

As part of IDI’s research portfolio, the IDI Outreach Programme also supports operational research interventions (including public health evaluations) across the supported districts to inform policy decisions.

Currently Outreach programmes are implemented in Kampala, Wakiso, Hoima, Buliisa, Kiryandongo, Masindi, Kibaale, Kagadi, Kakumiro, Arua, Maracha, Nebbi, Pakwach, Zombo, Adjumani, Moyo, Yumbe, Koboko
