He is a clinic physician at the Infectious Diseases Institute-Makerere University (IDI), an HIV Centre of Excellence. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree and Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from Makerere University. Together with colleagues in the IDI Prevention, Care and Treatment department; they offer ambulatory comprehensive HIV care to over 8500 people living with HIV.  Dr. Ddungu routinely oversees the urgent care unit, a specialized care unit in the department that caters for patients with advanced HIV and related complications
