Dr. Christine Sekaggya is an internal medicine physician with a PhD in TB drug pharmacokinetics. Her research interests are in drug pharmacokinetics and non-malignant haematology like thrombosis and sickle cell disease. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStephen is the Head of the Research Department, a Health Economist, and an Epidemiologist at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI). He is a recipient of the prestigious U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) K43 Emerging Global Leader Award (2023\u20132028). He holds a PGD and MSc in Health Economics from the University of York, UK, and a PhD from the University of Antwerp, Belgium. He completed a GloCal Postdoctoral Fellowship and a CFAR International Mentored Scientist Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He was a recipient of the prestigious Thanzi Program MSc Health Economics Studentship. Stephen is a Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on several research studies at IDI with over 50 peer-reviewed publications. Together with the central research team, he provides leadership and oversight for more than 80 research projects annually. He built and strengthened research systems, structures, and processes that consistently support the implementation of high-quality research. His leadership has helped foster a strong research culture through vision-sharing, mentorship, coaching, and support for colleagues’ professional development. He contributed to the development and strengthening of the IDI Clinical Trial Unit. In his leadership role, Stephen applies regulatory and risk-based approaches to research management and promotes resource-sharing models that facilitate the efficient management and implementation of multiple research projects under resource constraints. Allan is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Research Department at the Infectious Diseases Institute. He holds a PhD in Pharmacometrics at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Allan’s research leverages pharmacokinetic modelling to optimize dosing regimens, with the goal of improving treatment outcomes for TB and HIV. He is currently involved in the TAP study, which focuses on pioneering therapeutic drug monitoring of antibiotics in a clinical setting to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Dr.\u00a0 Catherine Godfrey is an infectious diseases physician scientist with an extensive background in HIV research, implementation and policy. She is a global thought leader in HIV therapeutics, HIV comorbidities and coinfections and is an experienced ID clinician and clinical leader.\u00a0 She has long-standing research collaborations with Ugandan scientists, and currently is the DOD\/WRAIR country director at the US Embassy.<\/p>

Prior to coming to Uganda, she was the senior technical advisor for adult treatment at the Bureau for Global Health Security and Diplomacy where she led PEPFAR\u2019s COVID-19 response and championed activities aimed at reducing mortality for individuals living with HIV.\u00a0 She has published extensively on HIV treatment issues, with over 100 peer reviewed publications.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

She spent 15 years at the Division of AIDS at the NIH and received the Constance Wofsy award from the AIDS Clinical Trials Group for her scientific contributions to women\u2019s health and the Donna Davis award for contributions to the community, the only USG employee honored to receive both awards.<\/p>

She is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, having spent many years in New Zealand where she was an infectious diseases consultant and clinical head of Medical Subspecialties at a 700-bed teaching hospital in Auckland. \u00a0She is on the clinical Hospital Medicine staff at Georgetown University Hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Semitala MBChB, M.Med, MPH-Epi, Imp Science, FCP (ECSA) is a physician, public health specialist, and implementation scientist at Makerere University, with extensive experience translating evidence into scalable and sustainable models of care in resource-limited settings. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medicine, Makerere University College of Health Sciences, and Executive Director of the Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP). His research focuses on applying implementation science to HIV, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases, integrated service delivery, and health systems strengthening, including TB screening and prevention and integrated HIV\u2013hypertension care. Her work focuses on using implementation research to improve the delivery of infectious disease care in Uganda, with a special emphasis on tuberculosis (TB). She has previously led a number of research studies funded by the USAID, WHO STOP TB Partnership and the NIH. She is currently the Scientific Lead on the EDTCP-funded RECENT-TB Study which will assesses whether secondary TB preventive therapy can reduce the risk of TB recurrence among TB survivors. He holds a Doctorate in Natural Sciences (focusing on Pharmacometrics). His research covers modelling of pharmacokinetic-(and pharmacodynamic) data in oncology, infectious diseases, and metabolic diseases, with current interests in understudied populations such as the pediatrics and pregnant mothers. With over 20 years of clinical and research experience, he leads high-impact initiatives focused on cancer epidemiology, HIV, and non-communicable diseases across East and Southern Africa. Dr. Semeere\u2019s work employs advanced technologies, including DNA amplification and AI-based image analysis, to improve diagnostics for Kaposi\u2019s sarcoma and cervical cancer. Dr. Morris K. Rutakingirwa is a Clinical Research Fellow at the Infectious Diseases Institute, specializing in meningitis and HIV-associated infections. He holds an MBChB and Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from Makerere University. Since joining IDI\u2019s meningitis research team in 2017, Dr. Rutakingirwa has contributed to over 20 influential publications that have helped shape global treatment guidelines, including studies on cryptococcal meningitis and HIV-associated meningitis diagnostics.
