Dr. Umaru Ssekabira is the Head of Training at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. He leads the institute’s efforts to train healthcare workers and build capacity to serve the millions of people living with HIV in Africa. Ssekabira has extensive experience in infectious disease research, having published numerous papers on topics such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. He is passionate about translating research findings into policy and practice to strengthen health systems and improve patient outcomes. Under Ssekabira’s leadership, IDI has become a world-class centre of excellence in infectious disease research, training, and care. He is committed to IDI’s mission of providing excellent care for people living with HIV, training healthcare workers, and conducting cutting-edge research to address the burden of infectious diseases in Africa.
