Targeted HIV Testing & Counselling

IDI established its HIV/AIDS portfolio in 2001 and strives for a world where HIV and AIDS are longer burdens on health and development.

As a key implementing partner for the Ministry of Health, we provide leadership to the national response to combat the HIV epidemic. We support country-led efforts to combat the complex challenges of HIV in Uganda and other countries in Africa.

IDI’s overall goal is to support and sustain the achievement of HIV epidemic control in Uganda by:

  1. Providing leadership in the development of programmes that maximise impact.
  2. Supporting country-led strategies while applying IDI’s broad health and development expertise and specialised HIV/AIDS technical competencies.
  3. Using science, technology, and innovation to support cost-effective, sustainable, and appropriately integrated HIV/AIDS interventions at scale.

The institute continues to innovate and adapt to realise efficiencies and maintain high-quality client care. We employ a “whole institutional” approach, leveraging our considerable development assets, including our work in health, education and governance. Our technical expertise and support are concentrated on the following technical priorities and areas of emphasis, all with data driven science at the core.

Comprehensive HIV Prevention, Care & Treatment

IDI’s HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care and Treatment programming provides a combination of HIV/AIDS medical and technical leadership and expertise to support the ministry of health goals. Our work includes:

  • Delivering clinical and programme expertise for quality HIV/AIDS services for those in need.
  • Designing and maintaining HIV/AIDS service delivery programmes and platforms with local partners.
  • Analysing key medical, social science, and programmatic data for update, effective, high impact HIV/AIDS service implementation.
  • Advancing the medical and scientific knowledge base for HIV prevention, care and treatment that will bring us closer to HIV epidemic control.
  • Supporting the introduction and scale up of new products and technologies that advance HIV prevention, care and treatment.
  • Developing integrated, patient-centred care service delivery models to address other common healthcare needs (primary healthcare, non-communicable diseases, family planning, sexually transmitted infections, co-infection treatment, etc) for client supported through IDI programmes.
  • Creating and sustaining strategic partnership to expand, improve, and maintain HIV prevention, care, and treatment services.
  • Providing thought leadership for HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment policy and guidelines.
