Head of Training

Dr Ssekabira Byansansa Umaru: Head of Training and Capacity Development department at the Infectious Diseases Institute is a Clinical Epidemiologist and Biostatistician. He has over 14 years’ experience in developing, implementing and evaluating capacity-building programs in the area of infectious diseases management for health care workers in Uganda and Africa. He is a seasoned international trainer and mentor with skills and knowledge acquired through attending training of trainers and mentorship courses, execution of trainings and mentorship programs in Uganda and Africa. He has supported development of training materials on Infectious diseases in Nigeria and Malawi and has published two papers on capacity building for management of infectious diseases. He is currently a member of three national technical working groups; Malaria case management, Hepatitis and the one health committee. He is a member of the national task force for management of Viral hemorrhagic fever outbreaks. Prior to joining IDI, he worked in Luwero district as assistant District Health Officer for 5 years. He possesses substantial experience in management of decentralized health care services including working with communities and civil society organizations.
