Dr. Esther Nasuuna wins Prestigious Neal Nathanson Award

Esther was an Afya Bora fellow in Global Health leadership 2017/18. The Afya bora Consortium which was conceived to train health professionals in leadership, consists of nine universities in Africa, the Unites states of America and China. The Afya bora fellowship is yearlong and trains future global health leaders from the seven partner countries together to equip them with practical skills and knowledge to prepare them for future positions leading the design, implementation, and evaluation of large, high-impact programs. It has a strong mentorship component for future leaders to learn from current leaders.

Dr. Neal Nathanson is one of the founders of Afya Bora Fellowship who gathered together African leaders in 2008 to create an Africa-centric training program for global health leadership. To honour his legacy, the Neal Nathanson Award is awarded to one fellow each year who not only shares the fellowship vision, but also shows strong leadership capacity, passion, and compassion and has dedicated themselves to serving underserved populations and improving population health in their country. For the first time in seven years, this award came to Uganda.

Esther is currently working in the outreach department as the program manager for the Paediatric and adolescent HIV care project. Her mentors were Dr. Joanita Kigozi, A/Prof Damalie Nakanjako and Prof Nelson K Sewankambo.
