Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the establishment of strong IPC programs to help create the foundation for resilient health services and systems that can adequately prepare for, and respond to disease outbreaks.
With support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), IDI received funding to:
Strengthen structures for the technical implementation of IPC programming at national and sub-national levels for both the public and private sectors including Faith-Based medical bureaus.

Additionally, efforts continue to monitor antibiotics use and consumption data among health care providers and patients in 6 Regional Referral Hospitals (Mubende, Fort Portal, Arua, Jinja, Mbale, and Kabale Regional Referral Hospitals) to inform specific interventions that foster appropriate use.
Key Achievements
- 97 Regional IPC rapid response teams from 87 districts trained
- 240 IPC Trainers of Trainees (ToTs) for Faith-Based Medical Bureaus trained. These trained and mentored 1050 health workers from 213 health facilities
- IPC drills were conducted for 50 health workers in West Nile
- 549 health workers mentored from 12 isolation units
- 183 Regional IPC focal persons trained
