Projects with Modals

Statistical and Data Management Unit

The unit supports various research projects in the management and analysis of large data generated by the longitudinal cohorts, as well as clinical trials in some instances. It ensures quality control and assurance measures in data analysis. Data analysed by statisticians in the unit, in collaboration with clinical researchers, has resulted in many publications and has also been used to support qualitative studies. The unit has developed strong external collaborations with well-established institutions, such as the Biostatistics team at the Division of Intramural Research, NIH/NIAID, which has helped the unit to build greater capacity for providing high-quality service.

DataFax

The DataFax unit is a semi-independent subunit under the Statistical and Data Management Unit. It was established to offer Data Management Services, including form (CRF) design, plate and database design and setup, routine data management involving multiple data reviews, quality control checks, and reports using DataFax technology. The unit also trains users and physically sets up client systems at field sites. These services have proven to be of great value to various clinical trials, observational studies, operational research, and cohort studies. Since its inception, DataFax has processed nearly 2 million records from over 70 clinical studies. The DataFax Unit was set up with generous support and ongoing technical assistance from the US National Institute of Health (NIH), which significantly contributes to the maintenance of the hardware, backup of data, and costs of license fees. The NIH also offers on-site consulting through the Uganda International Centre of Excellence in Research.

The DataFax system is a breath of fresh air in the management of massive data arising from clinical studies like ours. The system ensures that we are able to manage and analyze large data generated by the longitudinal cohorts as well as clinical trials in some instances.
