The Ministry of Health in Uganda declared the Sudan Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in Mubende district on 20th September 2022.

IDI, through funding from CDC, supported the Ministry of Health in the development and implementation of the National Response Plan.
The aim of the response was to facilitate the interruption of the transmission of SUDV and prevent its spread within the country and to other neighboring countries.

Key Achievements

  • Deployed 103 technical personnel to support the Incidence Management Team and respective pillars of the response.
  • Provided technical support for the setup & operationalization of Ebola Treatment Units including pre-deployment training of 300 Treatment Unit surge personnel.
  • Supported the roll-out of EVD Laboratory Sample Management Trainings at National level:
    • 50 national lab responders and 89 laboratory staff from 8 national referral and specialized hospitals were trained. 
    • 46 districts across 4 regions were trained through the cascade
    • 202 Regional Laboratory personnel, 707 district laboratory personnel, 71 hub riders, and 101 Morticians were trained.
  • Strengthened access to EVD therapeutics including Remdesivir and MBP134
  • Trained 349 Safe and Dignified (SDB) burial team members from Mubende, Kassanda, KMA and West Nile
  • Strengthened surveillance through training of 751 Health workers to support active case search in the facilities and 423 VHTs in the communities.
  • Supported activation of over 46 IPC RINGs
  • Cascaded IPC mentorships to over 1887 health facilities from very high-risk, high-risk, and moderate-risk districts.
  • Supported the Community Engagement pillar of Jinja in activating 7 Sub-counties/divisions, 27 Parish, and 234 Village Task Forces to support the response.
